The members of web host NearlyFreeSpeech.NET were looking for a catalog of all sites hosted there. To satisfy requests, it had to support categorization of sites and it needed to verify a site was indeed hosted by NearlyFreeSpeech.NET before allowing the addition of the site.
The solution provided was a custom database-driven PHP application. Amazon Web Services’s Alexa Screenshots product was used to get screenshots of sites, and caching of these screenshots was used to minimize costs.
